JAMMU: A gunfight took place between the Indian Army and foreign terrorists, as it foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, second such attempt in the last four days. The army also recovered several items with Pakistani markings.
Earlier, the army had foiled another infiltration bid on August 30.
Lt Col Devender Anand, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Defence, Jammu, said a group of heavily armed Pakistani terrorists attempted to infiltrate in Poonch sector on the intervening night of September 2 and 3.
“However the infiltration attempt by Pakistani terrorists was detected by alert troops of the Indian Army,” Col Anand said, adding the infiltrators were challenged and heavy firing ensued.
“Owing to undulating terrain and heavy undergrowth, the terrorists managed to break contact and escape back towards Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir under the cover of darkness,” Col Anand said, adding that a thorough search of the encounter site was carried out.
“During the search, the Army recovered clothes, packaged food items and medicines with Pakistani markings.”
On August 30, the army neutralised two foreign terrorists and foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district.
The army also recovered an AK-56 rifle, five magazines, 133 rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition, four hand grenades, Pak currency worth Rs 13,370 in different denominations and an identity card bearing machine number 34101-7771409-1, issued by Registrar General of Pakistan, on the name of Muhammad Akram, s/o Sardar, resident of Pakistan, from a slain terrorist donning army camouflage dress.
