JAMMU: Army on Sunday launched Cordon and Search Operation (CaSO) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here on Sunday.
Sources said, “Based on specific inputs about movement of terrorists in the district, Army troops assisted by Police, Special Operation Group, Para Military forces, this morning launched a CaSO.
“The CaSO was launched in the different parts of the Poonch district and has been intensified in Mendhar, Surankote and Krishna Ghati sector,” they said.
Meanwhile, alert also was sounded in Poonch district and people have been asked to stay alert and inform the security agencies on seeing any suspicious movement.
Earlier, September 3, alert troops of Indian Army late Thursday night has foiled an infiltration bid from the Pakistan side on the Line of Control (LocC ) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir and also recovered assorted food items with Pak marking.
“During search , the Army recovered an assortment of administrative stores left behind by the terrorists which include clothing, packaged food items and medicines with Pakistani markings.”
On August 30, Army neutralized two foreign terrorists and foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district and have recovered an AK-56 rifle, 05 magazines, 133 rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition, 04 Hand Grenades, Pak currency of Rs 13,370/- in different denominations and an identity card bearing machine number 34101-7771409-1, issued by Registrar General of Pakistan, with a name as Muhammad Akram, s/o Sardar, r/o Pakistan from slain terrorist donning army camouflage dress.
Prior to this on August 19, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army was martyred while one terrorist also was killed during a Cordon and Search Operation (CaSO) in in Kangota upper reaches of the Thanamandi belt of Rajouri district which turned into in a fierce gunfight.
Security forces also have recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one pistol, magazines and other ammunition from the encounter site
Earlier on August 6, two terrorists who belonged to proscribed terror outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) were gunned down in a joint operation launched by JKP and Security Forces in the forested area of Thanamandi in Rajouri district and two AK 47 Rifles with 07 Magazines, 04 grenades, some pouches and packets of medicine were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists also .
On July 8, Army also had eliminated two terrorists while two jawans also attained martyrdom in a fierce gun battle in the forward location in the area of Dadal, Sundarbani Sector, District Rajouri (J&K).
“Two AK-47 Rifles and ammunition in heavy quantity have been recovered from the terrorists. In the operation Naib Subedar Sreejith M and Sepoy Maruprolu Jaswanth Reddy received fatal injuries.
Pertintely Army had launched extensive search operations with effect from June 29.
