Bihar govt will carry out massive Covid vaccination drive on PM Modi’s birthday, says Nitish Kumar

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Monday said his government would carry out a massive vaccination drive against covid-19 on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17.
“A record number of vaccinations will be done on the birthday of PM Narendra Modi on September 17. All necessary preparations for vaccination on the PM’s birthday are being done. You will see the “big numbers” of vaccinations will be done on that day,” said Nitish, who is leading a coalition government with major support from BJP.
The CM was responding to media queries after his weekly “Janta Ke Darbar Mein Mukhya Mantri” programme held at the CM secretariat here.
Nitish’s statement came three days after the BJP national president J P Nadda told reporters in Delhi that the saffron party workers at booth level would help people get vaccinated against Covid-19 on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 in order to achieve the highest number of vaccinations on a single day.
“Our workers will contribute to the vaccination programme. We will make an exhaustive plan for September 17,” Nadda had said on Friday.
Responding to a query regarding rise in the cases of viral fever among children and dengue, the CM said he had held a review meeting with the health department officials two days ago over these issues.
“The health department has sent its teams to different districts. No case of dengue has come into light in Siwan district. Nine cases of dengue have been reported from Gopalganj district, while one from Saran. Whatever actions are necessary from the health department, all are being done,” Nitish said, adding tests for detecting dengue cases had been conducted also in Patna district.
Flanked by state’s health minister Mangal Pandey and the education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, the CM further said all necessary works were being done to protect people from Covid-19 infection. “I held a review meeting with the health department over the cases of viral fever among children and all necessary instructions have been given to health officials. Right now, the situation is under control,” Nitish said.
“Health department is fully alert over the cases of viral fever among children. All necessary items for treatment of viral fever are available in hospitals. No dearth of beds, medicines and doctors in hospitals,” the CM said, adding, “The effect of dengue has largely been reported from districts along Uttar Pradesh border.”
Nitish also said that besides the health department, the concerned district administrations have also been put on alert so that immediate arrangement for treatment could be done in case of a report about new cases of dengue or viral fever.
