HARIDWAR: The police have added the names of Hindu leaders — Dasna temple priest Yati Narasinghanand and Sagar Sindhuraj — in an FIR in connection with the case of alleged hate speech delivered during a ‘Dharam Sansad’ held in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar. “On the basis of the viral video clip, two more names — Sagar Sindhu Maharaj and Yati Narasinghanand — have been added to the FIR…Section 295A has been included in the FIR,” said Uttarakhand Director-General of Police Ashok Kumar.
The Sansad was held in Haridwar on December 17-19. ANI
Protesters demand arrest of organisers: Muslims came out in large numbers in Dehradun and Haridwar on Friday and Saturday, demanding action against speakers at the Sansad, who had made objectionable statements against the minority community, report Kautilya Singh and Sheo S Jaiswal.
The protesters marched up to police headquarters in Doon. In Haridwar’s Jwalapur, they took out a march, demanding immediate arrest of Jitendra Narayan Tyagi alias Waseem Rizvi, former head of Shia Waqf Board, for his remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
The protesters also questioned the delay in the arrests. Naeem Qureshi, who heads Muslim Seva Sangathan, said the protesters demand an SIT probe in the matter, a suspension order for the police officer who was found sharing a laugh with Narasinghanand and adding charges of sedition in the case. Meanwhile, Narasinghanand, told TOI, “We will face the charges, whatever they are, and not run away…”
