Esha Gupta is all set to take over OTT with her cop avatar in upcoming thriller series ‘Nakaab‘. The actress will share the frame with Mallika Sherawat and Gautam Rode in this MX Player show. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Esha opened up about the series, her character of Aditi Ambre and much more. Excerpts:
How did you land the role of a cop in ‘Nakaab’?
I don’t think the role was offered only to me, the makers had a few other options. But thankfully, they thought that I suited the role of Aditi Ambre. I am really grateful because if you see the trailer and teaser, Aditi Ambre is not the kind of role I get a chance to play. I am really glad that I got this opportunity.
Tell us something about Aditi Ambre…
Firstly, Aditi is not like the other characters that I have played. She is never given a chance to raise her voice. People always make sure that they are putting her down. She is a very intelligent and smart girl. Also, in the present world, people shout and scream to be heard but when we were kids, we were taught not to raise our voice. This new-age world is shown in the series. Everyone overtakes her because she keeps quiet. However, when it boils down to justice, Aditi is determined to go to any lengths.
How did you prep for your cop role?
I made sure that I know all my lines and in my own head. Also, I made a backstory about Aditi. I’ll give you a small example, like in my family
hume koi cheez ki rok tok nahi hai so probably mein apne baccho ko yehi shikhaungi.
Aditi aaesi kyun hai? There’s always a reason why you are like that. Maybe in school or college, Aditi was very intelligent but because she was always a bit quiet. Even if she used to voice her thoughts, someone else would take the credit
. But most of the prep goes into learning the lines and the look of the character, which is your physical appearance.
Can you share a fun and interesting anecdote from the sets of ‘Nakaab’?
I had the most fun in my van, with my team. Everyone around me, be it my manager, boy or makeup artist, all are really nice. So, I think it’s always fun for me. The only time when there was silence in my van was when I was rehearsing my lines for a serious scene. Also, one day we shot for an underground party on the sets. I don’t know how to explain it but it was a totally different experience. I have never seen such a party in my life. I have travelled the world but this was a bit of a shocker for me, but not in a bad way. When the audience will see it, they will be like, ‘
accha yeh bhi ek duniya hai.’ I’ll be very honest, I have heard a lot about this world but have never witnessed it. I think the audience will know when they will watch the series.
All episodes of the series will go live on MX Player on 15th September.
