Farmers claim victory, say stay away till all demands fulfilled

FEROZEPUR: Farm organisations on Wednesday claimed a “second major victory in one-and-a-half months” against the Narendra Modi government after the PM’s rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur was cancelled. Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders said Modi should stay away from the state till all their demands were met.
“The Modi government should not breathe easy and assume that farmers have backtracked from protests. The protests will continue till the government does not accede to our pending demands. Farmers have made it clear that MSP is more important for them, more than even the repeal of the farm laws,” BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said. BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee and nine other unions under SKM had separately anchored a #ModiGoBack campaign.
“We will not allow the government sound sleep till a legal guarantee is provided for MSP, and justice is done to the Lakhimpur Kheri victims,” said SKM’s Darshan Pal and Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala . BKU (Ekta Dakaunda) general secretary Jagmohan Singh said BJP should stop “dreaming” the agitation was behind it.
Meanwhile, the Centre assured the farm groups that it would form a committee on MSP by January 15 and called three representatives of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee – Satnam Singh Pannu, Sawinder Singh and Sarwan Singh Pandher – for a meeting on March 15 to discuss the pending demands.
