NEW DELHI: Jet Airways 2.0 has seen its first big management change before take off. Its revival from an operational perspective could now rest on a former top official of JetLite — erstwhile Air Sahara that Jet had acquired in 2007 and then served as the group’s low cost arm.
Captain P P Singh, the accountable manager and senior (VP) operations of JetLite till the airline set down in 2019, is learnt to be all set to replace Jet 2.0’s interim CEO Sudhir Gaur who has reportedly quit.
The Jalan-Kalrock consortia, which was last year allowed by NCLT to revive the airline, is yet to bring in funds to start the process which has seen very little progress so far apart from periodic statements being issued from time to time.
While Gaur’s resignation is seen as yet another setback to the virtually stalled revival plan, the news of Captain P P Singh coming in has given a faint ray of hope to some ex-employees from an operational readiness perspective.
Whether Jet2.0 actually takes off depends on Jalan-Rock managing the funds required for the same.
Captain P P Singh was one of the senior most pilots in JetLite. He has almost 20,000 hours flying hours collectively on three types of aircraft — Boeing 737, Airbus A330 and A340 — and is an examiner on them.
After Jet shut down in April 2019, Captain Singh joined Nepal Airlines as chief pilot and head of training and standards. People in the know say he has resigned from Nepal Airlines and will join Jet 2.0 after the notice period is over.
Comments were sought from Jalan-Kalrock consortium and are awaited.
