India decides to reopen Kartarpur Corridor with Pakistan

NEW DELHI: India on Monday decided to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor and allow pilgrims to cross over into Pakistan ahead of the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary celebrations.
The Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage was suspended in March last year after the outbreak of Covid -19.
The decision comes a day after a delegation of BJP leaders from Punjab met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him to reopen the Kartarpur corridor before Gurpurab. Gurpurab, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, will be celebrated on November 19 this year.
The delegation comprised state BJP Vice President Sudan Singh, Dushyant Guatum MP and co incharge of Punjab, Tarun Chug, Narinder Singh Raina, RP Singh, Dyal Singh Sodhi, Harjit Grewal, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna, Santhok Singh Gumtala and Vikramjit Cheema.
“We have a memorandum for the PM requesting to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, a wish of millions of Guru Nanakdev devotees across the world. The PM responded positively to our request to reopen the corridor soon,” said BJP state general secretary Dayal Sodhi had said.
The Kartarpur Corridor links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district.
