At a time when farmers around the nation are rejoicing over PM Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal three controversial farm laws, Kangana Ranaut has called the move ‘sad, shameful, absolutely unfair’.
The actress took to her Instagram stories to express her disappointment over the PM’s decision to scrap the laws, and said that the country was no better than a “jihadi nation.”
“Sad, shameful, absolutely unfair. If people on the streets have started to make laws and not the chosen government in the Parliament, then even this is a jihadi nation. Congratulations to all who wanted it like this,” she wrote in a post.
However, that was not all, she went on to state that there was a dictatorship was the ‘only resolution’. Commemorating the 104th birth anniversary of former Indian PM Indira Gandhi, she wrote, “When the conscience of the nation is in deep sleep, lath (the cane) is the only solution and dictatorship is the only resolution… Happy birthday Madam Prime Minister.”
In a surprise announcement, PM Modi announced on Friday that his government will withdraw the controversial farm laws that prompted yearlong protests from thousands of farmers.
The decision is a major climbdown by the Modi-lead BJP government ahead of key elections in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
“Today, I have come to tell you, the whole country, that we have decided to withdraw all three agricultural laws. In the Parliament session starting later this month, we will complete the constitutional process to repeal these three agricultural laws,” the PM said in a televised speech.
Following the big announcement on the occasion of Gurunanak Jayanti, several Bollywood celebrities including Sonu Sood, Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chaddha, Gul Panag, Shatrughan Sinha and others took to Twitter to congratulate the farmers for the big victory and got “Jai Kisan” trending on social media.
