NEW DELHI: Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92 in Srinagar after prolonged illness.
Former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti informed about his death on Twitter.
“Saddened by the news of Geelani sahab’s passing away. We may not have agreed on most things but I respect him for his steadfastness and standing by his beliefs. May Allah Ta’aala grant him jannat and condolences to his family and well wishers,” Mehbooba said on Twitter.

Geelani was the leader of hardline fraction of Hurriyat. Geelani was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded his own party by the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
He was an MLA from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and in 1987.
