Kamaljeet Singh has become the first vice chancellor (VC) of the newly set up Madhusudan Law University based in Cuttack, which has been set up by upgrading Madhusudan Law College. Before getting upgraded as a university, it was a constituent college of Utkal University.
The university aims to formulate a uniform admission process for all the affiliated colleges. “There are a few challenges related to infrastructure, uniform syllabi for all affiliated colleges as the university has been set up by upgrading an existing college,” says Singh.
As per the notification issued by the Higher Education Department, the Madhusudan Law University will start functioning from the academic session 2021-22. All law colleges of the state, currently affiliated to different state public universities, will come under the Madhusudan Law University as its affiliated colleges.

CLAT for admission
Stakeholders will decide if the admission will be based on CLAT scores. The university will soon hold a meeting with former principals of the upgraded university, on the curriculum, subjects and admission process for courses including LLB, BALLB and LLM offered here.
Currently, it offers admission based on entrance test, but looking at the health crisis, the authorities might have an alternative process to shortlist candidates for admission.
