RSS-affiliated school teachers getting aid from Assam CM relief fund: SFI

GUWAHATI: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) accused the Assam chief minister’s office of ‘illegally’ offering financial assistance to teachers of RSS-affiliated Vidya Bharati schools in the state known as Shankardev Shishu Niketans.
SFI’s state committee leaders, while addressing the press here on Wednesday, said providing financial support solely to the teachers of Shankardev Shishu Niketans is politically motivated.
“The BJP-led Assam government has taken up a discriminatory stand by providing one time financial support of Rs 5,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the teachers working at the Shankardev Shishu Niketans, a chain of educational institutions under Vidya Bharati, a private organization managed by the RSS,” alleged the state general secretary of SFI, Nirangkush Nath. The student body furnished cheques to prove their allegation.
TOI contacted Vidya Bharati, but no spokesperson was ready to comment on the issue.
Under the pandemic, Nath said, people from different sections of society have suffered significant economic hardships. “The lockdown impacted the teachers and the staff working in private schools as well. However, the act of the current government of providing financial support from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund solely to the teachers of Shankardeva Shishu Niketans, while depriving the other private school teachers is discriminatory,” asserted Nath.
The SFI state committee has condemned this “biased act” and has demanded the allocation of one time financial support to all teachers working in private schools administered under welfare motive, also covering the venture schools. SFI charged that since the beginning of the BJP rule in Assam, the state government has been partial towards the Shankardev Shishu Niketans.
“Previously, the former education minister Himanta Biswa Sharma provided financial grant to the Shankardev Shishu Niketans for building infrastructure. The repetition of a similar prejudiced action was witnessed again,” Nath added.
A delegation of SFI, while meeting state education minister Ronoj Pegu recently, enquired whether any financial support was provided on behalf of the education department to private school teachers. Nath claimed that Pegu had informed them that no such step was taken.
