NEW DELHI: The Centre has blamed the Punjab government for a security breach duing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Punjab visit today.
The MHA said that the PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes due a road blockade by some protesters.
The MHA has called the “lapse” a serious matter and sought report from the Punjab government.

“Around 30 kms away from National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the PM’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that the road was blocked by some protestors. The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. This was a major lapse in the security of PM,” the MHA said.
It further said that the Punjab government did not deploy additional security as a contingency plan to secure any movement by road. After this, the PM’s convoy headed back to Bathinda airport, MHA said.
MHA said it is taking cognisance of this serious security lapse has sought a detailed report from the state government. It has also been asked to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.
PM’s rally in Ferozepur was cancelled today. However the MHA blamed the cancellation on poor weather conditions.
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who was present on the dais, announced the cancellation, attributing it to “some reasons.”
